PROFESSION LOGISTIQUE N°3 – DECEMBER/JANUARY 2024
AI Cargo Foundation, a not-for-profit association under the law of 1901, funded by the France IA Hub, is firmly commited to accelerating collaborative practices and developing innovative tools based on artificial intelligence to effectively support the ecological transition. We spoke to Antoine du Sorbier, its executive director.
Can you tell us about the origins of the AI Cargo Foundation and how it has
evolved within the IA hub in France?
Antoine du Sorbier: The association was created in 2020 thanks to a unique collaboration within the France IA Hub, where various industry players joined forces to exploit the potential of AI and provide a concrete response to climate emergencency…
We recognise the need for a rapid transformation of management pro-cesses in the transport and logistics sector. Our status as an association The 1901 law provides a neutral and sovereign framework. For the mission, we benefit from the support of Agence de l’Innovation pour les Trans-ports (AIT) of the French Ministry of Ecological Transition. Our work focuses on several stra-tegic areas :
– Meeting the needs of transport and logistics and logistics operators by focusing on identifying and meeting the specific needs of the specific needs of industry professionals with solutions.
– Provide a neutral, collaborative working environment:
We create a collaborative working environment that respects the different dynamics and industry needs, while guaranteeing neutrality and confidentiality.
– Develop innovative digital solutions:
We harness the potential of artificial intelligence to contribute to more sustainable and efficient management of transport chains.
These strategic orientations reflect our commitment to be a key player in the ecological transformation of the logistics sector.
What solutions do you propose to meet todays logistics challenges ?
Our approach is based on the modelling of physical flows. We collect and analyse data, such as transport orders, to better understand them and optimise their execution.
Our aim is to identify opportunities for improvement in terms of energy efficiency and decarbonisa-tion. However, accessing and sharing this data in a competitive sector is a challenge, so AI Cargo facilitates this sharing in an anonymised and secure framework. The security is our priority. Supported by the France AI Hub, the association benefits from cut-ting-edge technical expertise.
Working closely with the French National Agency for the Secu-rity of Information Systems, we guarantee the sovereignty and security of the data, all of which is processed on French platforms. With this legal framework and the support of the Ministry of Transport, we are able to position ourselves as a trusted third party within the industry to work towards decarbonisation.
How are you contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions?
Decarbonisation is at the heart of our mission. We are working in three areas: Reconfiguration of long-distance transport through modal shift, optimisation of logistics flows and reduction of the carbon footprint of transport companies’ fleets. For example, our Appel d’AIR programme promotes the joint processing of data from all industry players to optimise modal shift. AI Cargo is an innovation centre that develops, tests and makes available to companies a set of ready-to-use digital applications that will ultimately help to accelerate the energy transition of
transport chains.
Could you give me some details about the Appel d’AIR programme?
The Appel d’AIR programme is an ambitious initiative aimed at to optimise logistics chains and promote the ecological transition in the transport sector. The programme is based on the idea of immediately testing the eligibility of regular flows on existing rail and river services, or those to be massified, in order to reach the thresholds necessary to collectively create new services to make logistics chains more efficient and less polluting. By pooling the transport needs of shippers and forwarders, Appel d’AIR aims to maximise the use of less polluting modes of transport such as rail and waterways. This not only helps to reduce the sector’s carbon footprint, but also improves the overall efficiency of logistics operations. Last but not least, this service is 100% free of charge as it is funded by Energy Saving Certificates!
